The Allegheny region of Western New York attracts hoards of visitors each fall for leaf viewing. The oak, cherry, ash, yellow poplar and maple trees of the Allegheny National Forest are beautifully displayed along the Longhouse Scenic Byway. This 29 mile route is designated as a National Scenic Byway in 1990 with many fantastic views of the Kinzua Dam and the Allegheny Reservoir.
Just to the north of the Kinzua Dam and the Allegheny Reservoir in New York State is the Allegany State Park. This state park is the largest state park in New York, with so many hikes and camping destinations to enjoy: The entire area including the Chautauqua Lake to Allegany State Park is a favorite camping destination with many exciting destinations and great leaf viewing in the fall.
The Allegany State Park presents a mix of hemlock and hardwood forests, with rolling hills, several meadows, beautiful ponds, and lakes; this park attracts devoted outdoor enthusiasts all year long. Allegany is New York’s largest park with over 65,000 acres of un-glaciated landscape. Offering 424 campsites and 375 cabins. It is a campers’ paradise. The winterized vacation rental cottages and cabins make camping fun in every season. The hiking trails, three lakes, amazing rock formations, guided nature tours, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, fishing and hunting makes the Allegany Region a great place for any family vacation.
Located in the center of the Western New York wine district, Lake Erie State Park is one of the more scenic camping parks in the region, with 90 campsites and 10 cabins, the park overlooks the magnificent Lake Erie waters
